Tips on Getting Your Farm Equipment Ready for Spring

Spring is a busy time for farmers, and the last thing you need is malfunctioning equipment to slow down the planting season. Check Your Battery

If you didn’t remove your farm equipment’s battery before storing it away for the winter, it’s very likely to be dead come springtime. Before you try to start up your machinery, we advise removing your battery and connecting it to a drip charger for at least 24 hours. If your battery hasn’t been dead for too long, it should quickly spring to life, and you can reinstall it into your machine with no problems. However, if your battery still won’t hold a charge even after it’s been connected to the drip charger, you’ll have to replace it completely.

Wash Your Equipment 

Whether you’ve been using your equipment throughout the winter season, or kept it safely tucked away in storage, you’ll want to give your machinery a quick wash before spring arrives. This will remove any dirt, dust, or grime that’s built up over the winter season, and allow you to closely inspect your equipment for any signs of rust or corrosion. If you do notice rust has begun to appear on your farming equipment, you’ll want to grab a wire brush and a rust remover spray and set to work immediately. 

Complete an Inspection

Before you take your farming equipment out into the fields, you’ll first need to give your machinery a thorough inspection. Examine any moving parts, wheels, or treads your model may have, and carefully check that all of your engine’s fluids are clean and clear. Finally, be sure to give your model a quick oil change before getting started on your farm’s many spring tasks.
