How to Clean Your Farm Equipment
Cleaning your farm equipment is an important part of your machinery’s general maintenance. Without regular cleanings, your machine will not only rust at a faster rate, but you’ll notice a significant dip in both its performance and service life. To make sure you’re getting the most out of your farming equipment, be sure to read our helpful cleaning guide below!
Prep
Before you grab your hose and start rinsing down your farm equipment, be sure to double-check that you have all of the required materials on hand. Not only will you need a large sponge and tough scrub brush nearby, but a number of soft towels and some automotive soap as well. If your equipment is covered in an impressive layer of stuck-on mud and muck, you may also want to purchase a gentle acid to wash to help remove this layer of grime. Just remember that you’ll need to apply a protective layer of wax afterward, or you risk damaging your machine’s paint job.
Cleaning
To begin cleaning your farm equipment you’ll first want to grab your hose and spray your machinery with a heavy stream of water. This should help remove a majority of caked-on mud and debris, however, you may need to follow up with your scrub brush to care for some of your machine’s smaller nooks and crannies. Once your farm equipment has been thoroughly rinsed, go ahead and apply your acid wash and allow it to sit for a few minutes. After some time, use your soap and sponge to begin washing your machine in sections. Remember to rinse your equipment as you go, before leaving it to dry in the sun. If you applied an acid bath, don’t forget to use a few soft towels to apply your wax once your farm equipment has completely dried.
