How To Prep Your Tractor For Spring

With spring right around the corner, it’s about time to start prepping your tractor for the upcoming season. Whether you were using your machine all winter long or kept your model safely locked in storage and away from inclement weather, you’ll want to read over our helpful maintenance tips to be sure your equipment is ready for the busy season.

Replace Filters

There are a number of different filters on your tractor that you’ll want to replace before spring arrives. Your oil and fuel filter are two of the most important, but your machine can also benefit from having the air and hydraulic filters changed. If you’re having trouble finding any of these parts, be sure to check your local tractor supply store or the nearest dealership. 

Tires and Tracks

Cold temperatures will often reduce the air pressure in your tractor's tires over the long winter season, until you find yourself with a few flats come springtime. To avoid this, be sure to have an air pump at the ready to refill your tires when temperatures drop too low. If your tractor uses tracks rather than tires, a flat tire won’t be an issue. However, you’ll still want to give them a quick inspection before starting up your machine. If you notice any rust, cracks, or other damages, you may need to have them replaced before the season starts. 

Check Fluids 

If fluids are left to sit for too long, they’ll often thicken and eventually condensate, causing serious problems for your tractor’s engine. Before you start your equipment, be sure to give all of your fluids a quick once over. If you notice they’re beginning to look dark, thick, or you see signs of condensation, you’ll need to flush and replace them immediately.
