Learn More About Hustler Mowers
Since 1964, Hustler has been making some of the best, most reliable mowers available and then found ways to further improve the standard. Today’s models come with reliable engineering you’d expect from a hustler with some of the modern technologies that make yard management easier and faster. Stop by Mike Cooper Tractors to see what all the fuss is about.
History
The History of Hustler goes back to the beginning of zero-turn mowers. By adopting certain technologies that were originally made for larger equipment, inventor John Regier created the first commercially available zero-turn mower, which could rotate around a flagpole and easily reverse directions, unlike some of the other machines of the time. When distributing these machines became impossible on his own, the design was bought by Hesston Corporation. Hesston eventually became Excel Industries which later established Hustler Turf Equipment, today’s official distributor of the first zero-turn lawn mower.
How it Works
The original design was based on a three wheel setup. It took a combination of classic mower parts and other farm equipment pieces and used what’s known as counter-rotation to create the zero-turn effect. Initially, the three wheels moved at exactly the same speed all the time. If you wanted to change directions, you would use the wheel to do so, turning it 180 degrees.
Today’s models use a slightly different method. Now, when you want to change directions, the speed of the wheels alter, so some of the wheels move faster than others in order to readjust the direction of the machine. They use a lever system to guide the mower to a particular place.
Hustler Today
Hustler now acts as a more independent, standalone name, although they still fall under the Excel Industries umbrella. They’re one of the most popular outdoor power equipment manufacturers with a number of other different types of mowers. They’re dedicated to providing not only mowers that will help you get the job done, but ones that will last over time so you don’t have to continuously fix one that keeps breaking or replace it every few years. And even if there's an issue with your particular model, they also offer great warranties to, at the very least, give you some peace of mind. In fact, so many people prefer Hustler Turf mowers that they have over 1,600 U.S. dealers and over 30 international dealers--dealers like Mike Cooper Tractors.
