Founding

Mahindra was founded by a trio of exceptional men. J.C. Mahindra was the first Steel Controller of India at the start of World War II when the steel trade was most critical, and it was his task to ensure it ran smoothly and correctly. K.C. Mahindra, his brother, was the chairman of both the Indian Coal Fields Committee and the Automobile and Tractor panel for the Indian government.

The third and final founder was Malik Ghulam Muhammad, a well-respected financier for the Indian government. At the close of each man’s public duties, they came together in order to begin their own company in 1945. It was founded as Mahindra & Muhammad, but in 1948 Muhammad left the company and it was renamed to Mahindra & Mahindra, or just Mahindra for short. They started by producing Jeeps and were soon the primary Jeep manufacturer in India.

Putting Down Roots in Agriculture

Mahindra joined forces with International Harvester in 1961 in order to build their very first tractor. In no time at all, that tractor became one of the most popular and respected agricultural tools in the United States and beyond. Mahindra started expanding in a number of different directions, starting a branch of the company for each new industry they ventured into—financial services, IT technology, infrastructure development, and of course farming.

Where They’re At Today

Mahindra is now made up of a number of different branches, each of which lays claim to an incredible variety of products and services, all designed to ensure their customers get optimal performance and uptime. Mahindra® tractors are still one of the company’s most popular products, and they’re made in a number of shapes, styles, sizes, and classes so that you always get the exact right tool for the job.

We can talk up the company all day long, but eventually you just need to see the results of their labor for yourself! Contact us at Mike Cooper Tractors if you have any questions, or if you’re just ready to browse through the Mahindra® tractors we have available.
